Scotland is rapidly gaining recognition as a premier global hub for technology startups, largely due to the robust support system provided by the Scottish Government’s Techscaler program. This initiative has been instrumental in attracting significant capital investment and fostering a thriving entrepreneurial ecosystem.
Over the past two years, tech startups participating in the Techscaler business accelerator program have collectively raised over £118 million in capital investment. This funding, sourced from both private and public sectors, underscores the growing confidence in Scottish startups and their potential to disrupt various industries. The investments are strategically channeled into sectors with high growth potential, including medical technology, artificial intelligence, and space exploration.
The Techscaler program has experienced substantial growth, as highlighted in its Annual Report. The number of participating companies nearly doubled from 502 to 978 in the past year, indicating the program’s increasing popularity and effectiveness. Simultaneously, the number of individual entrepreneurs involved more than doubled from 610 to 1,411. This surge in participation can be attributed to the comprehensive benefits offered, such as mentoring, training, and valuable introductions to potential investors and customers.
Techscaler’s commitment to fostering global connections is evident through its establishment of international pop-up hubs in Singapore and San Francisco. These hubs serve as strategic platforms for Scottish startups to penetrate global markets, facilitating access to new customer bases and investment opportunities. For example, Konversable, an AI chatbot and messaging technology company based in Glasgow, secured £300,000 in investment after being introduced to potential investors at Techscaler’s Singapore pop-up in October.

Deputy First Minister Kate Forbes has emphasized Scotland’s emergence as a prime location for tech startups, stating that the Techscaler program is pivotal in driving this reputation. She noted that the program is delivering tangible results, enabling entrepreneurs to innovate and expand into new markets. Stephen Coleman, CEO and co-founder of CodeBase, which runs the Techscaler program, expressed pride in the program’s achievements, highlighting its role in supporting ambitious founders and startups both domestically and internationally.
Launched in 2022 with £42 million of Scottish Government investment, Techscaler aims to support tech founders in scaling their businesses. The program offers tailored support at every stage of a startup’s journey, connecting entrepreneurs with expert industry operators and experienced mentors. Participants gain access to world-class playbooks and courses, as well as spaces and events designed to foster collaboration and knowledge sharing.
According to Techscaler’s annual report, its key cumulative milestones for first two years are impressive:
- 1,411 members and 978 companies have joined Techscaler since launch, up from 610 and 502 in 2023.
- 742 members cumulatively enrolled in education programmes at the end of 2024, up from 369 in 2023.
